If you want to know whether your household is in BISP, there are two official ways to check, and both are free. Send your CNIC number by SMS to 8171, or open the web portal at 8171.bisp.gov.pk and enter it there. Both read the same record: your household’s entry in the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER) and the poverty score BISP has calculated from it.
One thing the check will never show you is the score itself. The portal and the SMS reply say only whether your household is eligible or not. Agents who offer to reveal your score online, or to improve it for a fee, are lying. The exact score is held in BISP’s system, and the only place you can be told it is a BISP Tehsil Office.
What Benazir Kafaalat pays, and who receives it
Kafaalat is BISP’s main programme. The current installment is Rs 14,500 per quarter, the rate set in March 2026. Older pages and videos that mention Rs 13,500 are out of date.
The money is paid to the adult woman of the household. She collects it herself, and collection is biometric: her thumbprint is verified at the payment point before the cash is handed over. A husband, son or agent cannot collect it for her with a copy of her CNIC.
Eligible and paid are two different steps. The check confirms eligibility; payment dates for each installment are announced by BISP separately. Our Benazir Kafaalat scheme page lists the programme details, and the BISP payment calculator shows what the quarterly installment adds up to over a year.
The PMT score decides, not any person
When a household is surveyed for the NSER, its details are recorded, and BISP turns that record into a poverty score, called the PMT score. A lower score means a poorer household.
The line for Kafaalat is a score of 32 or below. If a member of your household is a person with a disability, the line is higher: 37 or below. A household scoring above its line is not eligible, even if money is tight, and no office or agent can overrule the score.
If your household has never been surveyed, it has no score at all, and the check cannot produce one. Survey first, check second.
Before you make a trip to an office, our BISP eligibility checker asks about your household’s situation and gives you an honest indication of whether you are likely to qualify. It is an indication only. The official answer comes from 8171 alone.
8171 check karna hai: by SMS
The SMS method works on any mobile phone and needs no internet.
- Open the messages app on your phone.
- Type your 13-digit CNIC number, with no dashes and no spaces.
- Send it to 8171.
- Read the reply. It states your household’s eligibility status.
Send the CNIC of the woman of the household, because the Kafaalat record and the payment are attached to her. If the reply mentions an error instead of a status, see the problems section below.
The same check on the 8171 portal
- Open 8171.bisp.gov.pk in your browser. Type the address yourself rather than following a link someone sent you.
- Enter your CNIC number in the first field.
- Type the code shown in the image exactly as it appears.
- Submit, and read the result for your household.
The portal screen is in Urdu, and its two fields are labelled CNIC number and the code in the image. Our 8171 portal guide explains each screen and message in detail.
If the answer is no, or there is no record
A no comes in different forms, and each has a different next step.
A clear not eligible means your household’s score sits above the line. If the survey is old and your circumstances have genuinely changed since then, for example the earner has died, work has been lost, or a member has become disabled, go to the Tehsil Office and ask about a fresh dynamic survey. If you believe the recorded details are wrong, the office staff can show you the record and correct it. They can also tell you your exact score, which the portal cannot.
A not surveyed or no record result means the NSER has nothing on your household. No check will fix that. You need the survey itself, which is explained step by step in our BISP registration guide.
After any fresh survey or correction, check again once the office confirms the record has been updated. The result follows the record, so a corrected record can produce a different answer from the one you got before.
An incomplete record produces an error rather than a status. That is covered next.

Problems people actually hit
The 933 error
This error means your household’s NSER record is incomplete. The portal and SMS cannot complete it for you. Take the original CNIC to your BISP Tehsil Office, where staff finish or correct the record. Check again after the office has updated it.
An expired CNIC
Assessment and payment both depend on a valid CNIC. If the woman’s CNIC has expired, renew it at NADRA first, then check again. Checking with an expired CNIC leads to a stalled record and, later, a blocked payment.
Eligible, but no payment has arrived
Being eligible today does not mean the cash is available today, because BISP announces each installment’s payment schedule separately. If an announced schedule has passed and you have still received nothing, call the BISP helpline on 0800-26477, which is free, or ask at the Tehsil Office.
The result names a different household
The result follows the CNIC you entered. If it describes a household you do not recognise, you have most likely typed the wrong CNIC, or your household was surveyed under another member’s record. The Tehsil Office can untangle which record your family sits under.

Money for children in the same household
A Kafaalat woman can also receive Benazir Taleemi Wazaif for her school-going children. The stipends are paid per quarter, per child: primary level Rs 1,500 for a boy and Rs 2,000 for a girl; secondary level Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000; higher secondary Rs 3,500 and Rs 4,000. A girl who completes primary school receives a one-time bonus of Rs 3,000. The condition is attendance: the child must attend at least 70% of school days. The Taleemi Wazaif calculator works out the total for your own children.
The Nashonuma programme runs alongside it for nutrition. A pregnant woman receives Rs 2,500 per quarter. For a child under two, the payment is Rs 2,500 for a boy and Rs 3,000 for a girl.
Both programmes are added through BISP’s own process, described in the registration guide. No separate agent or form seller is involved.
Staying safe from fraud
BISP messages come from 8171 and no other number. A text from a personal mobile number saying you have won BISP money is fake, whatever name it uses.
Checking your status, the NSER survey and registration are all free. The moment anyone asks for a fee, a percentage of your installment, or money to raise your score, you are dealing with a fraud. There is no paid shortcut, because the score is calculated from survey data, not bought.
Never hand over your CNIC copy, a one-time code from your phone, or your thumbprint on a device an agent carries. If someone has charged you or taken your documents, call the BISP helpline on 0800-26477.
